The weather in Cabarete and Sosua (Dominican Republic)

Throughout the year you can enjoy the sun and a pleasant warmth in the Dominican Republic. The island has a tropical climate with a relatively constant temperature (28-32°c), with a relatively high humidity. Every day there is a breeze which makes it feel nice, even in summer when there are high temperatures.. There is an average of 8 hours of sun per day and even in the rainy season you can expect plenty of sunshine to enjoy.

You can come on vacation to Cabarete or Sosua and make those at home jealous with a nice brown tan, throughout the year. However, underestimating the power of the sun in the Dominican Republic is the most common reason that a doctor should be visited by tourists. It can ruin your holiday so make sure you come prepared.

What is the best time to go on vacation to Cabarete or Sosúa?

Not so much the temperature, but the number of hours of sunshine per day and the rainfall may determine the choice of your holiday. Throughout the year, tourists visit the Dominican Republic to enjoy the sun and pleasant temperatures. The climate statistics shows that generally February, March and April have just a little bit of rainfall with an average daily temperature of 28-30 degrees C (night: 18-22 degrees). June and July are on the second place of guaranteed sunny months. This does not mean that you will wash away by rain in those other months.

The rainy season

The rainy season varies by region in the Dominican Republic. Usually there are heavy short showers at the end of the day or night. It almost never happens that a vacation is totally ruined by extreme prolonged rainfall. The south and east coast receives the most rain in May, September and October. However, the ‘rainy season’ in Bayahibe has less rainfall than during the dry months on the north coast (Puerto Plata, Cabarte, Sosua). The Samana Peninsula has relatively high rainfall throughout the year.

But the last couple of years it has changed, we have long periods of no rain, which is attractive for tourists but a little bit of rain is good for everything and everybody.
