Master Of The Ocean – A Cabarete Staple!
Cabarete has long been known as a watersports mecca, so it’s no surprise that Master of the Ocean made Playa Encuentro its home way back in 2003! The event was originally created by German waterman, Marcus Bohm. He wanted to provide a platform for local Dominicans to compete with professionals from across the globe. The competition has seen 8 Dominican champions to date, so he has achieved his goal by far!
What’s It All About?
The competition brings together four sports of the wind and waves: surfing, windsurfing, kiteboarding and SUP (stand-up paddleboarding). Over 5 days, Playa Encuentro will play host to 8 individual competitors and 8 teams that will all be competing for top spot. There are numerous titles and prizes awarded, the most coveted of which is overall first place: The Master Of The Ocean!
Although the event showcases world-class professionals in its main competitions, it also welcomes all watersports lovers. Throughout the 5 days there will be expression sessions – without judges, scores or winners – and opportunities for young up-and-coming talent in the Future Master category.
When The Competition Ends, The Party Begins!
Master of the Ocean doesn’t just attract watermen and women to Cabarete. At night, spectators and competitors alike can be found dancing at various clubs and bars along Playa Cabarete. As the sun sets on the final evening, a celebratory closing party comes to life at the Lax Ojo club, with both local and international DJs closing the competition in style!
