Cabarete Hurricane Protected ParadiseCabarete Hurricane Protected Paradise

It is a proven fact that we live in one of the only hurricane protected places in all of the Caribbean. Last month we suffered 2 category 5 hurricanes. Both were on direct paths to strike Cabarete. Irma and Maria devastated every other country in their paths. Irma is now documented as the largest and most powerful hurricane ever measured in the Atlantic basin. And yet no damage here on the North Coast. Let’s find out why in today’s “Cabarete Hurricane Protected Paradise” Blog.

How can that be? Was it the prayers or pure luck? No, it is science. Cabarete is in fact hurricane proof. That makes me feel pretty good about my investments here. I have been through quite a few in my 15 years here and the worst case so far is cleaning up palm trees and debris. In Cabarete we did not even lose electricity or Internet. That is truly remarkable. Or is it just simple science? Let’s take a look.

Cabarete Hurricane Protected Paradise

North Coast Protection Luck or Science ?

The Dominican Republic has a natural defense system. So, it’s not a miracle. Storms either get destroyed or pushed away by our mountain Pico Duarte, the largest in all the Caribbean. So how does that work? Well, it works in two ways. Firstly, 99% of hurricanes pass by the south of the island. But even should a direct hit happen the hurricane would need to cross over 230 kilometers before hitting the North Coast. That long stretch of land and the high peak diminish any hurricanes power and we end up with a typical rainy day and some wind.

Secondly, should a hurricane skirt the North Coast and hit us with a direct hit we once again are under the watchful eye of Pico Duarte. It actually pushes the hurricane northward. This was the case with Maria and Irma. Both were on a direct line for Cabarete. And yet, no “hurricane” ever arrived. Also the deep waters between us and Puerto Rico further cause the northward turn. And there is one more blessing we have that protects us from flooding. That is our reefs stop the surges. Although it is nice for our world class surfers that run to Encuentro Beach to enjoy Mother Nature’s gift.

The La Republica Dominicana literally means “God’s Republic.” It appears as though he takes care of his beloved Republic. After all we have the only flag on Earth that bears a Bible in the very center. It seems to be working. So, if you are considering visiting or investing, your money and your home are safe in Cabarete and Sosua. Do it. I did. And it is by far my best decision and investment. Come check out our Hurricane Protected Paradise. Cheers!
